Ruth Caroline Slater nee Von Arx, age 90 of North Riverside died Tuesday, September 11, 2012 of natural causes. She was born November 7, 1921 in Chicago, IL to the late Hubert and the late Elsie (nee Schulz) Von Arx, beloved wife of the late William Henry Slater whom she married on June 21, 1947, loving mother of William James Slater, Linda (Steve) Ruby and Pat Cookingham, cherished grandmother of Aaron (Roxie) and Alissa Cookingham and Ben (Darcie) and Jake Ruby, great-grandmother of Aaden and Maggie Cookingham, dear sister of the late June (late Lee) Arquette, the late Frank (Ann) Von Arx and sister-in-law of the late Thomas and the late Ann Slater, fond aunt to many.Ruth attended Austin High School and Wright Junior College, participating in band and orchestra. A commercial artist in her 20’s, later workng for Chicago Presbytery. She was active at Christ Presbyterian Church (formerly North Riverside Presbyterian), a volunteer for various organizations, North Riverside Quilters Guild member, and mall walker. Ruth’s love for art and music started early in life and continued throughout. She played piano, and organ, volunteering at church and school. She generously gave her artwork to others and displayed it at the local village hall. Visitation Friday, September 14, 3pm to 9pm at Kuratko-Nosek Funeral Home 2447 S. DesPlaines Ave., North Riverside. Funeral Saturday, September 15, Lying in state 9:30 am until time of funeral service 10:30 am at Christ Presbyterian Church, 24th Street and 8th Avenue, North Riverside. Interment Elm Lawn Cemetery.
