John Emmett Schejbal, age 77 of Eddyville, KY, formerly of Brookfield, IL passed away on Thursday July 12th at his home in Kentucky. U.S. 5th Army Vietnam Veteran, Spec-4 rank, discharged in 1969 when his tour of duty was complete. John was born August 16, 1940 to James and Theodata (nee Monahan) Schejbal of Oak Park, IL. John went to Fenwick High School and later started to work for Coca Cola. In 1971 he started his career as a firefighter for the River Forest Fire Department. During his career as a firefighter, John continued his education and became an EMT. He retired from the River Forest Fire Department in the early 1990’s. John also had a passion for cars and rebuilding engines, old and new. He opened Brookfield Engine Rebuilders in 1976 and continued until 1992. In his later years, he retired from the cold winters in Chicago and relocated to Eddyville, Kentucky in 2005. There he enjoyed lake life and drove a school bus for Lyon County. John enjoyed his boat and visits from his children and grandchildren. John is survived by his wife of 15 years, Jeri McMahon Schejbal, his children Jeff (Tammy Miller) Schejbal, Karen (Mike) Albertini, John (Michelle) Krogh and Ken (Chrissy) Schejbal and 8 grandchildren, Jeffrey, Bailey, Zackary, Tyler, Ryan, Allison, Jack and Johnny. He is also survived by his siblings Virginia (Charles) Poidomonte, Joanne (Harry) O’Brien, James (Beatrice) Schejbal and Kathleen (late Robert) Schulenberg. He was also an uncle and great uncle to many nieces and nephews.Memorial Visitation Wednesday, August 8, 3pm to 9pm at Kuratko-Nosek Funeral Home, 2447 S. DesPlaines Avenue, North Riverside. Memorial Service 8:00pm.
