Cindy A. Lavine

December 19, 1962 — April 3, 2025

Lemont

Cindy Anne (Holecek) Lavine, age 63, passed away peacefully at home due to complications from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in Lemont, IL, leaving behind a lifetime of love, laughter, hard-work, and compassion.

Born on December 19, 1961 in the Chicago area, Cindy was the beloved daughter of Judy and Jerry Holecek and stepfather, Ted Copenhaver. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Wayne Holecek, as well as her best canine friend, Jazzy.

Cindy is survived by her children, Amanda (Lavine) Kelly, Kimberly (Lavine) Slaughter (and husband, Tyler, and their children, Wyatt and Quinn), Jennifer Lindau, and Dana Alfano (Dana’s children: Gi, Gabi, Gionna, Gigi) Cindy is also survived by her siblings, Kelly Dakuras, Scott Holecek, and Jerry Holecek (Jerry’s children: Jessica, Amber, and Christopher) and Wayne’s children (Wayne and Isabella).

Cindy will be remembered for her enormous heart and even bigger laugh, which brought warmth and joy to those around her. She had a deep love for animals, never turning away a creature in need—whether big or small. Throughout her life, she dedicated herself to caring for and rescuing animals, a passion that never faded, even if that meant she had to go without.

In her younger years, Cindy loved spending time outdoors, especially riding horses and soaking up the sun. She had a creative spirit, enjoying drawing and capturing memories through scrapbooking and photography, especially of her children. In later years, she continued to express herself through crafting and devoted herself to caring for her pets and the many strays that found their way to her. She loved spoiling Quinn and Wyatt, whenever they came to visit.

Cindy’s kindness, humor, beauty, and unwavering love will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew her.

A special thanks to Amanda, for taking care of her the last several years up to her final days and to her respite caretaker, Khrystina. Thank you also to her lifelong friend, Melani Bell and to her friendly neighbors (Joe and Nancy) and landlord (Walter) for being so helpful, and to the local food pantries and Meals on Wheels.

In keeping with Cindy’s wishes, no funeral or memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Cindy’s memory to the local food pantry or Meals on Wheels that took such good care of her over the years. Or lend a helping hand to an animal in need, since that’s what Cindy would do!
