Carolyn Landahl, 70, married for 46 years to Paul Landahl, who recently served as Bishop of the Chicago Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, died on October 27, 2010 at her home in Riverside, IL. Carolyn was mother to Elizabeth (Heather Cusick), Amy (Marc Hill), and Matthew (Jeannette Payne) and grandmother to Eleanor and Nathan Hill.
Carolyn Landahl (nee Albers) was born in Decatur, Illinois on October 5, 1940 and is preceded in death by sister Margaret Bleeke and brother Paul Albers and is survived by brothers George and Steven Albers. Carolyn taught elementary school for over 25 years (23 in district 95 in LaGrange Park, IL) and influenced the lives of hundreds of students through her dedicated service in the classroom. Carolyn was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Riverside, IL (where husband Paul served as minister from 1972-1995) for the last 38 years and served the church in a variety of roles. Carolyn will be remembered for her deep love of family, her service to the community, and her honesty and grace.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Ascension Lutheran Church Mission Endowment Fund or the Greater Chicago Food Depository (www.chicagosfoodbank.org).
